Antiworld proudly presents (in association with Coast II Coast) Psychedelic Academy 005. YEESSS!! Those of you unfamiliar with Psychedelic Academy may think it’s a school where people trip off their nuts on mind-altering narcotics; you’ll be disappointed to learn that’s not the case. Others will be excited that it’s a night of trance, house, techno and the like. It all kicks off on the 4th May, Bank Holiday Sunday, which means you won’t have to worry about getting up the next day unless you work in a supermarket or a petrol station… The event takes place at Brixton Academy and will feature a whole host of (trembling with excitement) international acts. Israeli trance luminaries Infected Mushroom will be there – LIVE! If you picture footage from the 90s of guys in baggy t-shirts, off their faces on cheap ‘Doves’ and dancing like victims of savage arse-rape, you’re halfway there… Hell, you’ll probably be like that when the night’s over. One of the “ pioneering psy-trance artists of the millennium,” Astrix will also be performing live. The Russian born DJ has played to over 200,000, yes - 200,000 people at once, and cites the likes of Coldplay, yes – Coldplay as inspiration for his euphoric-funk sets. Psy-trance is where Astrix has made a name for himself though, so whatever you do, don’t take any Acid! Next up, Eskimo will be performing, and yes, he’s also LIVE! There’s a really cool fact about this 21-year-old trance luminary that we just have to share. One of his greatest samples was of Police shutting down a free party. How cool is that? He’ll be joined by John 00 Fleming who’ll be launching his brand-spanking new album ‘Psytrance Euphoria’. Fleming’s one of the seminal DJ’s and producers and speaking of his album (and to give you an idea of what to expect) he commented: “Over the three CDs I want people to experience the journey through the Progressive elements of Psy and Morning Psy that I love dearly”. Arrr… Ain’t that sweet? Also playing on the night will be Chris Liberator and Sterling Moss, best known for his ability to handle three decks simultaneously. And that’s not all! We’re assured there’ll be loads and loads of other DJs and artists there too; lovingly spread across four rooms with the finest sound system. I CAN’T WAIT! Words: Dave Dryden Psychedelic Academy 005 Sunday 4th May (Bank Holiday) 9pm – 6am (plus after hours) Brixton Academy , 211 Stockwell RD, London , SW9 9SL Tickets: £30 (while stocks last) Click for details…

“ I was dreaming of the past / And my heart was beating fast / I began to lose control / I began to lose control” John Lennon – Jealous Guy For all the house connoiseurs who have been crying like a new born since Twisted Disco called it a day; those who feel that they’ve been losing control ever since; those that have been dreaming of the merry times of old - we have some unbelievable news! Put down that handkerchief; tip that bottle of White Lightning down the sink and clean those tear drenched slacks, because Twisted Disco is back! Twisted Disco will be making a return on Friday the 25th at their old haunt Pacha, home of London’s biggest and baddest sound system. We’re assured that in the coming months Twisted Disco is going to twist, shake and turn into a far more superior beast to the TD of old. Hell, when you consider that their final party at Pacha saw roadblocks and queues along the streets, we can ruddy well believe it! They’re going to be kicking off in spectacular style too, having drafted in one of the finest house DJs around. We’re talking about the legendary Jerome Sydenham! Having started his career in the A&R Division of Atlantic Records, and breaking house group Ten City into the public gaze, Sydenham took to the decks after meeting longtime friend and producer Kerri Chandler. Since then Jerome’s gone on to find success with a whole host of deep house tunes, whilst delving into the realms of hypno-erotic techno and tech-house. In a nutshell, he’s the business, and fully deserves to line-up alongside close pals and collaborators Kerri Chandler and Dennis Ferrer in the house music Hall of Fame. Well, if it existed… As Gemma Ross, Operations Director at Pacha commented: “Twisted Disco has provided us with some of our biggest parties to date at The Cross and Pacha for the past two years, when we heard that they were planning their last event in March we had to put our foot down and get them back for more! “We’ve even bigger international stars on the bill each month and shed loads of show stopping production; our resident club night Twisted Disco is back and set to take the roof off (quite literally)!” If I hadn’t tipped that bottle down the sink I’d be saying: “Here, here, Gemma; here, here!” Twisted Disco: Real Twisted House RETURNS! MN2S are celebrating their 13th Birthday at The End on Friday 25th April. Thirteen years ago Robson and Jerome were at number one in the UK charts with Unchained Melody and the feud between Oasis and Blur was kicking off in spectacular style. Now look! My Chemical frigggin’ Romance can reach number one and the only battles going on are on the streets with knives and Kalashnikovs. Things have hardly improved; apart from Robson and Jerome’s retirement from music. Thank goodness MN2S can shine a light on an otherwise dreary period in our history with a whole host of top (ahem) house DJs. Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but there’s nothing unfortunate about this birthday bash. Just look at the line-up! No stranger to MN2S, Fedde Le Grand will be pumping eardrums and filling zee dancefloor with his usual dip into the realms of house. The DJ and producer should be a familiar face having filled the airwaves for what seemed like a millennia with ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ and summer anthem ‘The Creeps’. I love this city… Joining Fedde will be a man known as ‘the master of disguise’ - Joey Negro. The reason for Joey’s nickname is because of the numerous alter-egos he’s gone by in the past. Z Factor, Raven, and Maize, to name but a few. On the 25th Joey will be taking to the decks as himself. But it’s not a case of plain and simple Joey, oh no; with a track record in house music as strong as an extra matured sliver of Roquefort, Joey promises to get arms a pumping and mid-riffs gyrating. BO! Continuing the house theme will be legendary Ibiza DJ CJ Mackintosh. CJ was nominated as the ‘Best Ibiza House DJ’ and has grown a reputation as king of the mix CD. Old CJ can’t get enough of it; he clearly has the mix CD bug with his ‘Ministry of Sound Sessions’ almost gaining the lead on the ‘NOW’ series. Almost. Making up the bill will be Miami legend Brian Tappert and MN2S residents The Jinks and Danism. Oh, and we’ve been assured that Robson and Jerome won’t be making their comeback despite the internet rumors, so all the more reason to pop the cork and celebrate! MN2S 13th Birthday BASH! This one’s fairly short notice - but hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Good things come to those who wait, as the old adage goes. The Discolexia series returns at London's Cargo on the 18th April (THIS FRIDAY) with a line-up to match it’s bloody brilliant name. Ebony Jones, lauded as the 21st century’s answer to Grace Jones, will be showcasing her take on the DIY punk/dance aesthetic with tracks including “Don’t Fart on My Heart” and “We Know All About You”. Nice! We hear she’s phenomenal live, though don’t take our word for it! In fact, do take our word for it, our track record's as deep as the notches on Jodie Marsh’s bed-post. Radio 1’s Zane Lowe branded Ebony Jones as having the “hottest record in the world”. How’s that for a compliment? The Invisible will also be heading to Cargo. The hotly tipped trio, signed to Accidental Records, saw their ‘Constant/Passion’ 7” flying off the shelves quicker than the talking Furby of Christmas ’98. Zane Lowe was clearly a Parrot in a former life because he dubbed second single ‘Monster’s Waltz’ as being the “Hottest Record in the World” as well... The bands and artistes keep on rolling off the Discolexia conveyor belt. You could say they keep rolling off the ‘Atlantic Conveyor’ belt (enter canned laughter). 'Atlantic Conveyor' mix disco, dub and hip-hop to produce an ultra funky sound that’s garnered much respec’ from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Groove Armada and… erm… Zane Lowe. Finally we’ve got 'New Chef'; who hasn’t exactly been ‘bigged up’ by Zane Lowe because, well, (drum roll please) it is Zane Lowe! We all know Zane’s credentials, his influence on the music scene (see above) et cetera et cetera… On the night he’ll be delving into “discoid punk funk” at Discolexia. There ain’t nothing Lowe ‘bout that! So there we go. Discolexia; Zane Lowe taking on the world with an arsenal of bands and artistes and DJ sets that are guaranteed to destroy dancefloors the world over! Don’t take our word for it though; take the word of Zane Lowe. We hate to admit it, but his track record is even better than ours... Discolexia Friday 18th April 8pm-3am Cargo, 83 Rivington Street London , EC2A 3AY Tickets: £10 (adv) £6 (B4 9) £12 Queue jump & £8 entry with Camden Crawl ticket or wristband!

Today’s one of those days. Brain’s in meltdown, works on top of you, people are spreading their own self-pity about the place like DIY confetti made from rusty nails and sharpened daggers. Still, there’s always a little something to brighten up the woes of bills, come downs, hangovers and problems with your sex life. Go!Zilla at East Village, Shoreditch, for example. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to a night showcasing some of the finest DJs on the house and techno circuit – the world over? I couldn’t think of anything better. I should probably purchase a new pair of trainers so I can dance the night away like a hyperactive chimp with 400,000 volts of electricity zapped up its butt, because Swiss house and techno master Ripperton is heading to East Village. I’m not a total house, techno, electro, hip hop and breakbeat connoisseur to be honest. Honesty is the best policy after all. So I’ll do my best to describe Ripperton and the rest of the line-ups sound as simply as possible. If ever you’ve had an urge to dance to a record by a certain artist after listening to a more chilled out groove by said artist then you’re along the right lines. One minute you’re sucking on a bottle of East Village’s finest and admiring that piece of skirt in the corner, the next you’re on your feet and dancing like a horny bunny rabbit. It’s the change in tempo you see. Ripperton’s techno and house has earned him respect across the field, as one half of Lazy Fat People and Perspective records. So he’s obviously fantastic. Resident DJ James Priestly, just one reason why Go!Zilla is so popular, will be joining AKA resident Karl Gonzales downstairs in the venue. Both dip into the whole deep house vibe, whilst James has been busy as a bumble bee working on his own honey-dipped sweetness. Priestly has been co-producing much revered EP ‘The Source’ and is remixing ‘Happy’ taken from Robert Owens new album ‘Compost’. We’re assured that it’s a very good album and shouldn’t actually be thrown into the rest of the shit and mud to be used as fertiliser next year; despite the name. Upstairs will host names that are just as big on the dance circuit. Who’s Afraid of the Cosmic Truth return to Go!Zilla on the back of some of the finest off-the-cuff parties this side of London. Then you’ve got Quiet Village, consisting of Matt Edwards, he of Radio Slave fame, and Joel Martin. The pair will be sharing a “unique blend of Balearic nu-disco,” which can only be a good thing. Despite the bills and the rest of the crap that makes up an average day, I’m almost smiling now. One things for sure, I’ll definitely be smiling on the night. Go!Zilla at East Village Saturday 19th April 9pm – 4am 89 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch, London, EC2A 3HX Tickets: £8 (before 11) £10 (after 11) £6 (NUS b4 11) £6 (concession b4 11) http://www.digitaldance.com www.myspace.com/thezilla1 www.eastvillageclub.com

I just ruined a perfectly good tea-towel. It was putting out a 3 Bar Fire. It was real big, just like you see in the films. There were loads of stars there too, at the 3 Bar Fire. There were people like Gucci Soundsystem and Martelo. Of course, this is a very poor attempt at using metaphors. In a nutshell, 3 Bar Fire are putting on a night at the Hub in London and it’s set to be pretty hot. I like Gucci Soundsystem. I’m not overly aware of them, but I like the fact that Ben ‘Fat’ Trucker has had a cool photo taken in front of multicoloured meat. Much revered DJ Riton is ‘Fat’ Trucker’s other half. Anyone who went to Notion’s ‘Stand and Point’ in February will be aware of Riton’s skills behind a deck. Gucci Soundsystem blend electro with disco with excellent results. You should hear their remix of LCD Soundsystem on DFA Records. Amazing. And they have Lou Reed: Vicious on their website, so much respect. Joe Ransom will be there too! Joe’s residency at Fabric has long been popular with London cats; hot, heavy jams spun out like a pinball wizard, ricocheting from hip hop beats to electro grooves. He also has a Kiss100 show, which is also worth mentioning. Big up! You want to know all about Martelo? Well what can I say? Old-skool garage? Check. Crunk acapellas? Check. Baile funk? Check. Hip hop attitude? Check. Sinden cohort? Check. All round skill on the one and twos? CHECK! This guy steps the line between badboy bass-wobbling beatery and guzzling ‘80s fiend like a true pro. HOLLA! Next. Grosvenor will be performing LIVE. We’re talking the kind of ironic-electro pop madness built on the foundations of the leaning tower of Pisa. Wonky electro beats banging heads with everything from Hall and Oates to smooth 70s rock. To give you an idea of the electro madness of Grosvenor, he used to play drums for Hot Chip, so he’s obviously a bit different. In a good way. Dels will also be live. Currently recording his debut album and drawing on on hip hop and a a load of big beat electro-crunk badness, he’s one not to be missed. If you’ve ever dreamt of drowning in the sea while a load of sharks draw ever closer, you’re along the right lines. Except before the bit where the sharks are about to bite, they decide to do ‘big square, little square, cardboard box’ while you rap about “bouncers” and “raves” and throw the occasional “fuck” into the equation. Which is great! Hopefully I’ve sold this 3 Bar Fire night to you. If not I’ve failed, and I’ll crack open another beer and lock myself in the spare room again, where there’s no telly, no stereo, no nothing. Maybe I’ll grow a big bushy beard and live on tins of soup and bottles of Volvic. If I get lonely I’ll talk to a tin of Oxtail and call him Oxy. Then we can play eye spy; though there are only so many varieties of soup you can get mind. Then I’ll arise, on 26th April; head to the Hub in London and party like its 1999, because this one’s going to be a fucking good one. Standard. 3 Bar Fire Saturday 26th April 10pm – 5am Hub, 2 Goulston Street London, E1 7TP Tickets: £5 (adv) £8 (otd) 3 Bar Fire Tickets

The End is offering a night of revelry for drum n’ bass fiends on April 11th as living legend Fabio takes on the ‘original night of liquid funk’ Swerve. Fabio is renowned for his bangin’ all-night sets, having pioneered the scene in the 90s with epic sets at Rage and Speed. Hmm… Rage and Speed; wouldn’t like to meet someone with those two traits in a dark alley. Anyway, the godfather of drum n bass will be teaming up with a whole host of artists from his Creative Source label as well as pounding ears with a four hour, YES four hour set! This is truly a rare thing in the d n’ b world and should give Fabs the chance to show us his true worth. He’ll be joined by the beautiful sounds of Calibre, who, after releasing his debut album on Creative Source in 2001, has gone on to rule the liquid d n’ b roost with a little help from the mighty Marcus Intalex. New talent Lynx will also be demonstrating why he’s undoubtedly become one to watch in 2008 after the release of his tempo-destroying anthem ‘Disco Dodo’ last year. Having plied their trade for the past fifteen years, masters of the ‘rave anthem’ Total Science will be making up the numbers in the main room, whilst Fats and Rage will be taking to the mic for some sweet rhyming skills. Over in the lounge a succulent selection of Swerve’s superb spin-doctors will be shaking booty and spinning a steamy soundscape of sound, plus all the Swerve residents under one roof as Bailey, Flight, Chris Intaface, Tendai, Aaron Jay and original beatsmith DJ Addiction take to the decks. Truly an event to get all real heads moist, expect something other than your usual “YOU SAY RAVER, I SAY BO!” action. Basically, smooth as fuck. Chew the Fat! Have announced a “festival in a club” style fundraising event for one of the pioneers of the breakbeat scene. Founding father of Chew the Fat! Paul ‘Trouble’ Arnold was diagnosed with leukaemia last year and in honour of the dance scene great all and sundry will be turning up to show off their subliminal skills. It’s set to be like Woodstock, only instead of a psychedelic rock and folk festival, Troublestock will be taking place in the cool surroundings of London’s The End club and featuring all things dance! The main room, AKA and the lounge area will represent different scenes as incorporated in Chew the Fat’s history, from past to present. Just like the Ice-Cream counter at Pizza Hut one can pick and choose from sweet breakbeat goodness, a juicy dollop of house, or a mish-mash of every conceivable sound you’ve ever dreamed of. Mmmm… nutritious! In the main room there’ll be more than just beats a-breaking as Bristolian duo and all-round badboys the Stanton Warriors take on breakbeat big-hitters the Plump DJs. Both are huge on the breakbeat circuit, the Stanton Warriors garnering global recognition with international tours and the Plump DJs notoriety with ever-mounting commercial success - they’re played on the radio and everything! Plus it’s going to be the first time either posse have gone head to head – a Chew the Fat! exclusive! It’s like, totally double mental and stuff! Also, Kutting his proverbial mustard in the main room, will be DJ/producer Krafty Kuts taking on the big-band of breakbeat the Freestylers crew. Other highlights will include Atomic Hooligan taking on Soul of Man, Tayo, Evil Nine, Tom Real and Elite Force. Wowzers! Meanwhile AKA will be bringing funky-pumping-house to the masses in the shape of Italo-disco luminary Serge Santiago and king of the castle (house) Rob da Bank (house). AND the ruddy Cuban Brothers will be at The End – in London - with an exclusive live set! We’re talking festival-filling royalty of royally epic proportions; stripping and spinning and generally going mental! Finally, over in the Lounge, master of the remix Kissy Sell Out will be puckering up to bring a barrage of all-round electro par’ excellence while Herve’s alter-ego the Count of Monte Cristal will be on hand to spin, mix and generally bus’ up the place. Funky-beatsmith A-Skillz will be in a three-way stand-off with both the Dub Pistols and Drum Monkeys in a scene akin to Clint Eastwood, that Mexican dude and Lee Van Cleef in the Good the Bad and the Ugly. There’s nothing ugly about Chew the Fat! though; it’s gonna be sexier than Kate Moss in a pink TuTu, sucking on a Nestle Fab and rolling in a pool of filth! All proceeds from the night will go towards Paul’s road to recovery. This alone should be reason to attend Troublestock… the fact that Chew the Fat! have drafted in such a face-and-mind fuck of fantastic talent is merely a Brucey bonus. “Now, didn’t they do well”! Man, it sucks; the older you get the more time flies. Before you know it you’re wearing dentures and sitting in a rocking chair, sipping Bovril and watching re-runs of Murder She Wrote. In the case of Mulletover’s fourth birthday any “sense of getting old” doesn’t really matter because it’s a ruddy good excuse for a party! As far as throwing a bloody good night goes Mulletover have been at the forefront for the last four years. No one and I mean no one knows how to take the party to spacious warehouses and abandoned car-parks like the Mulletover crew and their band of loyal followers. Anyway, to celebrate this iconic moment (or just as an excuse for a mad one) the Mulletover contingent are presenting a “history of house music”. Room One unleashes ‘Back to the Future’, taking a look at the current sounds on the house scene with artists new and old alike. With 2008 marking the twentieth anniversary of A Guy Called Gerald’s Hacienda classic Voodoo Ray, which highlights just how synonymous the man is across a multitude of electronic genres. A Guy Called Gerald has toyed with everything from acid-house to jungle in his illustrious career and at Mulletover’s fourth birthday he’ll be unleashing a live-set, full to the brim with fresh material. This is most definitely one NOT TO BE MISSED! Owner of Intacto records Shinedoe, a lady fast becoming a scene-setter with her distinct and fresh techno sounds, will also be present in Room one. Adam Shelton will be joining Mulletover for a second time whilst the man, the myth, the legend that is DJ Geddes won’t exactly be making up the numbers, but blasting out some serious tech-house love following the launch of Murmur Records. Room two will be taking you ‘Back To The Old Skool’ with a wee lesson in the origins of dance. So you can expect the legendary DJ Pierre to make the trip from the US of A. Allow us to take you ‘Back To The Old Skool’ with a lesson in the history of acid house. Basically, DJ Pierre was one of the - if not the pioneer - of the scene, releasing the first record of its ilk: Phuture ‘Acid Tracks’. Expect Pierre to take you on one hell of a trip, exploring the roots of his sound as well as showcasing his interpretation of the scene today. Add to this Trevor Fung, who hosted the first raves alongside Paul Oakenfold with Kurrage and Mr Shiver delivering a lesson in the landscape of dance music culture. It’s kind of like being at secondary-school, only rather than learning about the Spanish Civil War you’re gyrating like a randy gibbon, downing an alcoholic beverage and listening to bangin’ tunes. Mulletover’s 4th Birthday Saturday 29th March 10pm - 6am Secret Warehouse Location Tickets: £8 - £12 Advance tickets from www.ticketweb.co.uk For further information contact/visit: +44 (0) 7943 971 924 / www.mulletover.co.uk / www.myspace.com/mulletoverclub

A little bit of deviation never hurt anyone. I mean, change is good; if you do the same thing week in week out you’ll only find your soul being drained away, like man-juice up the nasal cavity of a sexually depraved Henry the Hoover. Anyway, Deviate is the kind of night to go to if you fancy a break from the norm… Unless you’re a huge fan of dub, reggae, ska and the like, in which case you won’t really be deviating at all. Anyway, Deviate’s heading to Brick Lane’s 93 Feet East and they’re bringing the ‘vanguard of dub’ along with them; that’s the Iration Steppas Soundsystem to you and I. It’s not without reason that Iration Steppas have grown into one of England’s biggest, most notorious soundsystems. The boys have been spinning their dub, reggae riddims for eighteen years; we’re talking the kind of shit that you can skin-up and chill-out to, or grind and groove to, or just proper skank to, in equal measure. That’s not all. Supporting Iration Steppas will be twenty-one year old dubstep luminary Benga. Benga’s practically dubstep royalty, we’re talking the bonnie prince Charlie of the dubstep world, except with smaller ears and killer half-step beats and basslines. Furthermore, Benga’s from Croydon, which is really fucking ghetto, as I should know being an old Croydonian myself. Having released his first groundbreaking EP, with minimal electro grooves and bass-beaten dub delicacies, when he was only sixteen years old, Benga continues to astonish and astound with his subliminal skills. Live ten piece drum ‘n’ bass ‘slash’ dub-electro outfit, Gentleman’s Dub Club, will also be setting the scene with a “you’ve gotta see this shit man it’s fucking mental” live-set, whilst the likes of Exodus, Sidewinder and MC Oxman will be making up the bill. There's also a secret warehouse after party, Jamaican infused food and a live courtyard graf show taking place… So go on, show some love; ditch your plans and Deviate. “RDDM SPELLS RIDDIM!!” DEVIATE PRESENTS: IRATION STEPPAS SOUNDSYSTEM BENGA + GENTLEMAN'S DUB CLUB EXODUS + SIDEWINDER & MC OXMAN MAN MAKE MUSIC DJ’s + DJ EXEL Saturday29 th March 8:00PM - 3:00AM 93 Feet East 150 Brick Lane London , E1 6QL 8:00PM - 3:00AM £7 (otd) www.seetickets.com (adv)
