San Miguel Hidden Depths: It's Pop It's Art. Amersham Arms. September 18th.

Asking Planet Notion why we love Be@Proud is kind of like asking a Neanderthal what he/she loves about violent sex and raw bear-hide. Where do we start? You’ve got the beautiful burlesque women; the awesome audio visuals; oh, and don’t even get us started on the music! Which is why we’re going to be bringing you a fresh preview of Be@Proud every week, from here on in. We kick-off this with September 6th’s schedule; and boy is it a good’n. Be@Proud will welcome global superstars of electro-pop, Mister Furio and Professor Manso, better known as the Pinker Tones. The Barcelona born duo are one of the Spaniards’ most popular imports, whose sets delve into everything from reggae infused beach beats to electro-rock and pop ditties. New album ‘Wild Animals’ has already reached number one on the iTunes Alternativo and Emusic download charts. Tis exciting news indeed… Joining the Pinker Tones will be multi-talented Munich band: Kamerakino. The band mashes everything from the violin and ukulele, to bass guitars, synths and drums. The music differs from song to song; one minute you’ve got a folk-ditty – perfectly fitting for the horse stables of Proud - and the next you’ve got an electro-tinged multi-instrumental dance number. The sextet’s bassist played with Franz Ferdinand and Kamerakino have recently been signed to the Scottish band’s ‘NEW’ label. Tis double exciting news, um, indeed… Finally, one of London’s most in demand DJ duos, Sam Willis and Sam Nolan, will be spinning their yarn on the decks. The pair, known better as Allez Allez, are no strangers to the major club-nights and venues of the capital and have fast-gained a reputation as one of the finest live acts around. Hagpop Matossian will supply impressive 3D visuals on the night… Next week Planet Notion brings you the 13th September schedule for Be@Proud. But if you’re so desperate to see the line-up that a large wet-patch is forming round your crotch and your thighs are feeling strangely warm, CLICK HERE . Be @ Proud 6th September 2008 Proud Galleries, Horse Hospital Stables Market, Camden, NW1 8AH 8pm – 2.30am Tickets: £8 (adv) £5 (before9) £10 www.ticketweb.co.uk

Okay, first-up, don’t panic. All this crap about the world coming to an end because too many people are drinking cups of tea and microwaving frankfurters isn’t true. We were told the world would fry at the turn of the millennium and look what happened there? Sod all. But imagine if the world was ending; how would you see it off and wave farewell? A KFC? Eastenders Omnibus? Shoot a crow? Eat a truffle? Take a dump on a Route 47 bus? This is a question presented by upcoming club night ‘The End of the World Nuclear War’ at 93 Feet East, London. The renowned ‘End of the World’ series have considered how people felt in the 80s, when nuclear war seemed eminent. They’ve thought: “Fuck it, if we knew that the world was ending we’d get absolutely blotto,” so that’s exactly what they’re doing. They’re throwing a gigantic party with banging DJs and a fancy dress theme. Great, huh? The theme is 1986, when everyone was thinking that the Soviet Union and America were going to press some buttons and blow the whole world to smithereens. It was a scary time and there was mass-hysteria. People looted and everything… well, probably. Thank God for the A-Team and Knight Rider and Ghostbusters and stuff, right? They were always there to save the day. Obviously the world wasn’t blown-up and the 80s turned out to be pretty cool in the end. Fashion was fucking weird and everyone had permed hair, mullets, shell-suits and shirts with really puffy sleeves. These are the inspirations for the upcoming club-night’s fancy dress theme: Bands like Blondie and Tears for Fears; films like Rocky and ET; kids’ shows like Dungeons and Dragons and He-Man; people like Margaret Thatcher and The Hoff; items like gas-masks and boiler suits… With the theme being the end of the world and all, the music’s set to be pretty cool too. People are invited to email requests to ‘The End of the World’ by CLICKING HERE with DJs including the phenomenal Loose Cannons, Miss V, and The Angel of Mercy taking to the decks. Hell, you’re going to die anyway (for the sake of fun), so you’re entitled to a last request. Entertainment will also be supplied on the night, including a contact-juggler and a hula-hooping (sic) guy called Craig who was on Britain’s Got Talent. Double exciting, huh? There’s also an indulgence area where people can go all greedy and stuff their faces and drink really expensive champagne and stuff. Planet Notion will be attending after we’ve finished polishing our really large weapon of mass-destruction. See you there. The End of the World Nuclear War 11th October 2008 93 Feet East, Brick Lane London , E1 6RU 7.30pm Tickets: £7 (adv) £8 (after9) www.theendoftheworld.co.uk

I say Potatoe, you say Potato. I say Jalapeno, you say, um, Jalapeno Records. Yes, the little pepper with a big kick isn’t just the number one addition to kebabs up and down the country; it’s also the inspiration behind the name of infamous dance label: Jalapeno Records. The music is just as sizzling as the chilli pepper, skimming across the boundaries of dance and incorporating everything from funk music to lounge, breakbeat to house, and everything in between. Alas, picture our joy when we learned that Jalapeno Sound System is heading to the Big Chill House on September 13th… Jalapeno Records’ boss, the formidable Trevor Mac, will be the Sound System resident on the night. The Mac Daddy has already stormed festivals including Glastonbury and Bloom this year, with the upcoming Bestival next on his agenda. He’ll be joined by soul sensation Ben Westbeech; renowned more as a singer song-writer than a DJ, Westbeech is equally impressive when taking to the decks. No stranger to Jalapeno Records, Westbeech recently scored a hit with ‘Squeeze Me’ alongside label legends Kraak and Smaak. If that sounds seriously up your street, here’s all you need to know: Jalapeno Sound System The Big Chill House 13th September 9pm – 3am 257 - 259 Pentonville Road Kings Cross London N1 9NL Tickets: Free (before 10) £5 (after) www.jalapenorecords.com

Planet Notion has always dreamt of going to Cuba, what with the rum and the carnivals and the cigars and those cars that look like the ones in Scarface. So you can imagine how excited we were to find out that we’ll be going… well, sort of. You see if like Planet Notion you can barely afford a can of Special Brew let alone a trip to Cuba, “Bacardi B-Live presents La Fiesta” gives you the next nearest thing. “Bacardi B-Live presents La Fiesta” will transform London’s SeOne into a fiesta street party on September 4th, inspired by the house parties and celebrations of Bacardi that would spill out onto the Cuban streets. It’s the closest you’ll get to the sunny streets of Santiago da Cuba on the dank and dirty streets of London; or in this case, the inimitable indoor settings of the capitals largest club. With it being the SeOne, there are also going to be some top-notch DJs and live acts performing; and here’s the thing: It’s FREE! Ay Curamba! Before we go into all the boring info on just how you can get your mitts on FREE tickets, Planet Notion presents the “Bacardi-B Live presents La Fiesta” line-up: The undisputable champion of beatboxing - or at the very least one of the nation’s favourites, Beardyman will be making the trip to SeOne. So too one of the finest and most in demand turntablists on the circuit, DJ Yoda. The legendary DJ Food will also head to “Bacardi-B Live presents La Fiesta” along with the genre-bending Filthy Dukes, splicing electro with sweet pop and subtle rock. Add breaksmiths Evil Nine and Krafty Kuts, along with the Cubans’ favourite music in the form of Jazz Bomb (LIVE) and you’ve already got enough to cause extreme creaminess in your pants! But the fun doesn’t stop there. Sean Rowley will be bringing Guilty Pleasures along for some poptastic electro. Being the kind souls we are, Planet Notion is giving away a pair of “Bacardi-B Live presents La Fiesta” tickets to one lucky winner. For your chance of winning CLICK HERE . Ah, we’ve had barely any sun this year and when we have it’s merely made a fleeting visit. Oh blessed weather, why do you desert us so? And if you thought August was as jolly as Simon Cowell with chronic diarrhoea, just wait until September… it can only get worse. So thank heavens that a brand new 2,600 capacity state-of-the-art venue, situated in London’s O2, is set to brighten up the capital’s nightlife… even if the days are ruddy rank. Launching on September 19th, Matter will combine top DJs, live acts and bands in an environment to make even the most club-phobic wet with delight. The Live Launch Night will set the tone for the months to come, with the inimitable UNKLE and the frazzled-electro and melodious refrains of Late of the Pier announced. Joining them will be Mercury Records’ big-hitters, Iglu and Hartley, and Radio1’s Huw Stephens. The following day marks Matter’s Club Launch Night, with one of the biggest beat-freaks of clubland making the trip: Carl Cox. Coxy will be joined by much-loved-and-in-demand DJ, Kissy Sell Out and the mighty Yousef & More. And if you’re sitting there thinking “the buck stops here”, just check out the rest of Matter’s September schedule: One of Scotland’s most famous electronic exports, Mylo, will be joining a stellar line-up on the 26th. This will include a live performance from Indie-electro wordsmiths, Reverend and the Makers and a host of DJs from genre-bending London night, Casino Royale; with more acts yet to be confirmed. The 27th will welcome a posse of Renaissance DJs, including Hacienda legends Sasha and Marcus James. Room 2 will be equally formidable, with Live & Direct’s Mark Brown, Micky Slim, Arno Cost and the brilliant Steve Mac. Matter has been designed to create both the ultimate audio and visual experience, with a body kinetic dancefloor, 360 degree visuals and mighty audio systems creating a fantastic and unique atmosphere. If you hear the sweet sound of RnB coming from a souped-up Austin Allegro, a hoard of fat-arsed beauties leaning on its delicate frame, you’re probably in Haringey. Seriously, they friggin’ love RnB and Hip Hop in Haringey. It’s like the epicentre of pimping tunes from pimps in pimp-mobiles! Anyway, now people from the other side of London can rejoice, as Hush, the self-professed home of RnB and Hip Hop, prepares to prostitute your swaying butt to some seriously sultry tunes. Respec’ blad! Hush will be holding a weekly residency every Friday night at the O2 Arena. Yes, the O2 Arena. This immediately proves, beyond doubt, that Hush is at the top end of RnB and Hip Hop partays . I dare you to argue that fact. No, no, no: I double dare you! It all kicks off on September 19th and as with any launch night, Hush has brought together a whole host of fine artistes for your eyes and ears to gorge on. Om, om, om! First-up, you’ve got club and radio DJ, Masterstepz – so expect some banging, sexy, grinding RnB riddms to be churned out en masse. Kiss 100’s MOBO Award-winning DJ, Shortee Blitz, will be delving into his (re)mixed bag of veritable Hip Hop and RnB delights, whilst Radio1’s Chris Goldfinger – who’s “well big in da game” – will be following suit with an infusion of reggae. The fun and frolics continue with the ma-hoosive DJ Swerve and Radio 1Xtra’s Manny Norté, playing everything from RnB and Hip Hop to Old Skool anthems and dancehall tunes. Finally, West London’s da Firin Squad, MTV Base legend, Kat, Dave Diamond and Lonyo will make up the bill. That’s more than enough magic to keep your eyes glued and your ears tuned, right? That’s if you’re not ogling the fine array of hoe and gangster wannabes, dancing around like Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey if they were the by-product of the RnB and Hip Hop scene and by default, ten times cooler… Hush at the O2 Friday 19th September O2, Peninsula Square London , SE10 0DX 9.30pm – 3.30am Tickets: £12 (b411) £15(after) www.hushparties.co.uk

Go!Zilla, the frazzled brain-child of Secret Sundaze’s James Priestley and Terry Hart, returns on August 23rd to Cargo, London. Once again, the night will bring a host of luminaries together for shenanigans aplenty, copious debauchery and ‘dance-like-a-paraplegic-jellyfish’ fun. ‘They Came From The Stars, I saw Them’ may seem like a statement made to Dover Police by an over-zealous Star Trek fanatic, but they're actually a barmy trio of instrumental dance gods. Big things are expected of the wonky-electro trio, who have already received high plaudits in high places with their experimental new-wave/nu-rave sounds... Allez-allez will also be making the trip to Cargo on the 23rd. Sam and Steve have fast become one of the top name DJs on the London circuit, having hosted and played alongside luminaries including LCD’s James Murphy, Four Tet and Hercules and Love Affair. Incorporating a thick cement-mix of house, krautrock, industrial and minimal sounds, Allez-allez are guaranteed to send Go!Zilla wild. Lest we forget James Priestley and Terry Hart will also spin their merry yarn. Oh, sweet, sweet happiness! Go!Zilla at Cargo Saturday 23rd August 83 Rivington Street Shoreditch, London EC2A 3AY 8pm – 3am Tickets: £6 (b49) £12 (otd) £10 (nus) For advance tickets CLICK HERE !

Get this: The Hacienda is avin’ it large, in the only ways The Hacienda knows ow’!!! Okay, so that was a rather poor attempt by Planet Notion to master the art of talking Manc via the medium of text. Okay, okay, it was crap; but try this one for size: The Hacienda is out on tour on one long fookin’ partay to rival all fookin’ partays!!! Shameless really. No really, it was better wasn’t it? Well, mildly so… They should probably invent a ‘Dictionary of Manchester’ to make the Southern hack’s life a little easier. In fact, I might approach Theo Paphitis to see if he’s interested in making it a reality on the next series of Dragon’s Den. Anyway, The Hacienda, legendary Manchester club and institution on the British music scene, will be jet-setting all around Europe from August through to the end of the year. Now, before we rattle on about the dates, month by month and all the exciting talent that’ll be gracing various venues, et cetera, et cetera, we have to draw your attention to one very special FAC 51 do - typically, specially reserved for a Manchester Christmas shindig. Yes, very recently announced, Hacienda sparring partners, The Happy Mondays - those Mancunian survivors and superstars, return to the club where they originally made their name, fame and some fortune, as they play live for The Hacienda at The Warehouse Project on December 28th 2008. Throughout the twists and turns of their riotous career, the Happy Mondays have remained one of their city’s top live draws and with their last Manchester appearance at G – Mex last December, the Hacienda’s Christmas Warehouse Party provides a very rare chance to catch the band in a smaller scale, warehouse venue. With that done and dealt with, you lot alerted and all that, we present the Hacienda's August schedule, chiselled into bite-size chunks fit for consumption by Prince or that weird bloke from Labyrinth who looks like David Pleat… On top of their weekly residency at Eden, Ibiza, which we’ve previously discussed on this here website, The Hacienda will be hitting Barcelona’s City Hall on August 17th. Headlining the date will be none other than Andy Weatherall. Now, Andy’s relationship with The Hacienda doesn’t end with being an innovator of the Acid House scene, oh no… Andy has also masterfully remixed for names inseparable from the good clubs name. We’re talking the Happy Mondays and New Order, as well as for renowned artists including Primal Scream and Bjork. Oh yeah; Andy is the proverbial Bee’s Knees. If that doesn’t give you a tingling sensation, in an area where tingling sensations are a pleasantry, The Hacienda will also be gracing the mighty Creamfields on August 24th. Oh yes. Forever voted ‘Britain’s Best Dance Festival’, since launching 10 years ago, Creamfields will welcome many a Hacienda legend. Leading the way will be none other than the mighty Peter Hook. The Hacienda co-founder and owner will be joined by luminaries including Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Jon DaSilva, and Dave Haslam… Exciting is an understatement. If you could bottle-up legends of The Hacienda, shake em’ about until the cork was throbbing, and then spray it in someone’s face – that face would be CREAMFIELDS 2008! The lads will be gracing the VIP area with a marathon of sets. And as if that wasn’t enough for one day, The Hacienda will simultaneously be hitting Cardiff’s ‘Liquid and Life’, and Huddersfield’s ‘Cotton Factory’. Phew! Finally, Andy Weatherall will be making the trip from his earlier date in Barcelona to Birmingham’s ‘Rainbow Warehouse’ on August 29th… Does that sound like a month to rival all other months ever, or does that sound like a month to rival all other months ever? Well, just wait until we bring you The Hacienda’s September schedule... you'll piss yourself with excitement! The Hacienda: August Schedule 17 Barcelona, City Hall. (Andrew Weatherall) 22 Blackburn, The Cellar Bar. (Marshall Jefferson, Graeme Park) 24 Creamfields. (Peter Hook, Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Jon Dasilva, Dave Haslam) 24 Cardiff. Liquid & Life. (Jon Dasilva, Justin Robertson, Allister Whitehead) 24 Huddersfield, The Cotton Factory, (808 State DJ’s, Elliot Eastwick, Tony Walker) 29 Birmingham, Rainbow Warehouse. (Andrew Weatherall) And just to warn you well in advance... The Hacienda Christmas Warehouse Party Sunday 28 th December Happy Mondays (Live), Peter Hook, Mike Pickering, Jon Dasilva www.thewarehouseproject.com For further information visit The Hacienda MySpace page… http: www.myspace.com/fac51thehacienda The Hacienda Tour 2008 is supported by fashion label Bench who since the label’s inception in 1989 have been inspired by the vibrancy of the Manchester music scene and its unique cool, fashion traits. As long time Hacienda regulars, the label is intimately associated with FAC 51’s heritage and has taken many cues from the club’s pioneering sense of style. Bench has consistently been associated with high profile music events and its current collection combines its sleek, edgy, urban lifestyle designs with designs of old-school ghetto blasters and classic guitars, underlining Bench’s commitment to music and the sharpest of street-style.

At first glance, Planet Notion was really excited about KOKO hosting a night of pornographic imagery and cutting-edge break-beat. Then it suddenly dawned on us that AV doesn’t refer to ‘Adult Video’, but ‘Audio Visual’. I’m sure you can picture our disappointment. Thing is, after reading the line-up for Videocrash, our spirits were soon lifted and we rejoiced once again. Presented by Soundcrash and taking place on 13th September, we’re ecstatic to announce that Videocrash will welcome the Hexstatic posse. Branded as one of the top audio/visual performers the world over, Hexstatic will be bringing ultra-fine breaks and beats along with an enormous cinema screen for a ‘well far out’ experience. So here’s the deal, Hexstatic is made up of Ninja Tune’s finest, including the legendary DJ Food and DK; yes, the DJ Food and DK. They’ll be joined by the likes of Pest - regarded as one of the top break-beat acts of the last decade, and the highly-rated Cheeba, who’ll be going head-to-head with another big-breaks-talent, Boom Monk Ben. All with AV madness kicking off in the background. Cool, huh? Videocrash at KOKO Saturday 13th September 1a Camden High Street London , NW1 0JH 9pm - 3am Tickets: £14.50 koko.uk.com
